Tohoku University is currently seeking a faculty position as follows


Faculty Position Associate Professor (tenure-track position)
Science and Technology for Low-frequency Risk Evaluation,
Hazard and Risk Evaluation Research Division
Specialized Field
1. Research on evaluation and estimation of risk (size, frequency) of low frequency major disasters
2. Interdisciplinary research by geologic and sedimentological approaches aiming at integration with other fields
3. Research on behavior estimation analyzed and estimated from tsunami deposits
Qualification Requirements
1. The candidate must have a doctoral degree (or Ph.D.) in a related discipline.
2. The candidate must have attained highly evaluated research achievements related to the above specialized field.
3. The candidate must have an experience of assistant professor at a university, or relevant experience at a research institute.

3. Statement about past research activities on one page of A4 or letter size (Form 3)
4. Statement about next research activities at IRIDeS on one page of A4 or letter size (Form 4)
5. Reprints of academic papers and/or books: selected 10 files maximum with numbers consistent with the publication list (Form 2). If the 5 files include book chapter(s), add a copy of the publication information pages and table of contents proving the applicant’s contribution to the books.
Note 1: Application forms (designated in Items 1 to 4 above) must be written in English or Japanese. 
Note 2: Publication list (Form 2) must be categorized as “Books”, “Peer-reviewed papers in academic journals”, “Reviewed conference papers and proceedings“, “Reviewed summary of conference papers and proceedings”, “Other papers”, “Industry property rights”, “Invited speaker,” and so on. 
Note 3: Three copies of printed application forms (designated in Items 1 to 4 above), and one set of the printed five selected papers or books (Item 5 above) should be submitted. Also, CD, USB drive or an equivalent media containing the digital files of application forms (designated in Items 1 to 4 above) and academic papers or books (Item 5 above) shall be submitted (PDF is preferred).  
Note 4: The submitted documents will not be returned to the applicants.
Term of Employment
Starting: January 1, 2020, or later.
Tenure-Track Probationary Period: 5 years (with tenure review taking place before the five-year contract ends). In case of that the candidate has already been employed by Tohoku University as of the first date of employment, tenure review of the candidate may take place before employment.
Salary: Payment will be made in accordance with the Tohoku University’s rules and regulations. Annual salary system.
