Research summary

I am investigating impact of disasters on psychosocial and physical aspects of affected people and mental health systems in the affected community by integrating multi-faceted research approaches, and extract useful information for promoting mental health of affected people and for developing resilient and effective mental health support system. I also conduct basic and clinical medical researches to investigate molecular mechanisms of disaster stress responses and disaster-related mental disorders to develop useful tools for the prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of disaster-related mental problems. I also investigate the interaction between environmental and genetic factors underlying the pathophysiology of mental disorders in general to elucidate common mechanisms contributing to the disorders, and the mechanisms specific to disaster-related disorders.
