IRIDeS is currently seeking a faculty position as follows:

Risk Evaluation and Disaster Mitigation Research Division,

Position: Tenure-track Associate Professor
Expected Research Field:
  The main purpose of this position is to support enhancing disaster resilience thorough conducting cutting edge research, teaching, and social implementation activities in disaster science specifically focusing on large-scale flood/inundation disasters. The position will emphasize on creating new disaster risk assessment methodologies by integrating numerical modeling, advanced remote sensing, machine learning, and geo-informatics (spatial information science). 
  The position is also expected to contribute on our research team's efforts of developing rapid and real-time reliable risk assessment methodologies and apply to developing countries in the challenging environments where dense observations, high-precision and high-resolution data, and advanced computational resources are not available.
  The position is expected to contribute to education in the department of civil and environmental engineering.
Qualification Requirements: 
  Successful candidates must have a PhD in Earth Science, Geo-informatics, Engineering, Information System, Computer Science, or a related field by the date of appointment. 
  Candidates are expected to have achieved outstanding research outputs in the research fields mentioned above and have experiences of international research collaborations.

3. Statement about your research plans, education, and social implementation at IRIDeS (Form 4-1 and Form 4-2, less than two pages)
4. Reprints of academic papers and/or books: selected 5 copies (maximum) consistent with the publication list (Form 2). If the applicant has book chapter(s), add a copy of the publication information pages and table of contents indicating the applicant’s contribution.
Notes:
- Application forms (designated in items 1 to 3 above) must be written in English or Japanese. 
- Publication list (Form 2) must be categorized as “Peer-reviewed papers in academic journals”, “Reviewed conference papers and proceedings”, “Reviewed summary of conference papers and proceedings”, “Other papers”, “Books”, “Industry property rights”, “Invited presentations,” and so on. 
- Three copies of printed application forms (designated in Items 1 to 3 above), and one set of the printed five selected papers or books (Item 4 above) should be submitted. Also, a CD, a USB drive, or an equivalent media containing the digital files of application forms (designated in Items 1 to 3 above) and the PDF of five representative papers (Item 4 above) shall be submitted.
- The submitted documents will not be returned to the applicant.
Term of Employment: 
  Starting: January 1, 2023, or later
  Tenure-Track Probationary Period: 5 years (with tenure review taking place before the five-year contract ends).
Salary: Payment will be made in accordance with the Tohoku University’s regulations of annual salary system.
