Event Details

Many communities in Australia and Japan are exposed to natural hazards which have led to numerous disaster events in the past. At the same time, the tourism industry has grown rapidly in both countries, potentially increasing vulnerabilities to tourists and the host communities. The Tohoku region of northern Japan had recently hosted two mega-events, the 2019 Rugby World Cup which experienced typhoons and floods, and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, held during the period of COVID travel restrictions. As Australia is set to host a number of mega-events, such as the Olympics and Commonwealth games, this symposium brings together academics, government representatives, and experts from Australia and Japan together to share experiences and exchange ideas on how to strengthen tourism resiliency.

Online and In-Person participation is free, please register at the URL below. Video URLs will be provided upon registration.  In person registration will be limited to the first 50 people.
