Research on the Integration of Disaster-Focused AI and Disaster Digital Twins
We are conducting research and development on disaster-focused AI that draws on past disaster records, response cases, and lessons learned to organize and present information needed for decision-making and support the consideration of response measures.
Disaster digital twins use Earth observation data, data on social dynamics, and physics-based simulations to reproduce and compare multiple disaster scenarios and visualize disaster risks.
By integrating these technologies, we aim to develop the AI for Disaster Science (AI4DS) platform to support evidence-based decision-making throughout the disaster management cycle, from preparedness planning to damage prediction and evacuation decisions during disasters, as well as recovery and reconstruction.
Starting with tsunami disasters, we aim to expand the approach to other hazards, including earthquakes, floods, and volcanic disasters.
