To promote the real-world application of disaster risk reduction (DRR)-related research and development, our research laboratory has spearheaded the establishment of international standards in key DRR areas. To date, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published a technical report (TR 6030) identifying areas with potential for DRR standardization, as well as an international standard (ISO 37179) providing basic principles for implementing DRR activities. Following the publication of these umbrella standards, we led the development of additional standards. These include a standard for preparing DRR information to facilitate risk-informed decision-making; a standard for risk finance requirements to encourage ex-ante investment; a standard for seismometer systems; and a standard for emergency food supplies.
Alongside these efforts to implement real-world applications, we are cultivating human resources capable of contributing to DRR in response to diverse societal needs.

During my 30-plus years of service in government agencies, I have dedicated a significant portion of my career to international trade. I have extensive experience and expertise in social systems and rules. I have been particularly involved in formulating rules related to the WTO international trade, standards and certification, and antitrust laws. Additionally, my experience working at an industry-academia collaborative research organization has given me practical experience and insight into research support and collaboration facilitation.
