I serve as a member of the Scientific Council for the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study, the world's largest epidemiological research initiative, and on the Independent Expert Group for the Global Nutrition Report (GNR). I apply this international expertise to domestic policymaking, such as in the final evaluation of Japan's national health promotion plan, "Health Japan 21 (Second Term)," and the formulation of the government's "Global Health Strategy". In addition, I oversee the ongoing monitoring of excess mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic and have developed tools such as "VODA," a visualization platform for Official Development Assistance (ODA). I also participate in making policy recommendations for the G7 Summits. Through all these activities, my consistent aim is to bridge research and practice using data, and to contribute to solving diverse societal challenges, from peacetime to health crises, through evidence-based policymaking.
