TU/UCL Collaborative Research and Education Centre for a Resilient Society
Based on a strategic partnership with UCL, we strategically allocate resources and promote university-wide educational and research exchanges across multiple fields. Among them, the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) and UCL's Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction (IRDR) and the Earthquake and People Interaction Centre (EPICentre) are collaborating on resilience and disaster-related issues. In addition to this collaborative research, we have promoted student exchanges, including joint supervision and field research for more than 10 years, in multiple graduate programs at our university. Since 2019, our activities have been selected to receive support from the Tohoku University-UCL Matching Fund every year, which is strengthening our research.
Our varied joint research has led to many achievements such as internationally co-authored papers and exchanges of young researchers. Selected for the "Project to Strengthen the Global Capacity of Universities - Support for Inter-University Exchange with the Indo-Pacific Region -" from Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's from 2022, we will implement international exchange and international education programs for the realization of a resilient society, and joint degrees. In order to establish these programs, the centre will focus on education in the fields of disaster research, in addition to research and social contributions, with the aim of deepening collaboration with UCL.
