Research Activities
Disaster Humanities and Social Science Division aims at delivering the lessons of past disasters to the future and contributing to disaster reduction and post-disaster recovery in each region through research focusing on human mind and activities, architecture, social infrastructure. It conducts research for disaster reduction against various types of disasters which are changing according to social and environmental changes in the 21 century and for development of policy and planning to realize resilient communities. It consists of the six laboratories: Disaster Culture and Archive, Preservation of Historical and Cultural Heritage, Cognitive Sciences, International Strategy for Disaster Mitigation, Regional Resilience Planning, and Spatial Design Strategies. It was established in 2021 by integrating and reorganizing several research fields in Human and Social Response Research Division, Regional and Urban Reconstruction Research Division, and Disaster Information Management and Public Collaboration Division in the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS).
