Research Activities
1. Promotion of comprehensive school safety by International Collaborating Center of Disaster Education Research and Implementation
Contributing to the promotion of comprehensive school safety by international organizations such as the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and UNESCO. Utilizing the researcher network of the "Disaster Prevention Education International Collaboration Center", a project collaboration research center of Tohoku University.
2. Study on fusion model of school safety and social safety
Transmitting a message on a role model seems to be significant, in which the activities for disaster risk reduction have been actively carried out based on a community working toward a solution to the universal problem for which the activities for realization and promotion of the “Sendai Cooperation Initiative for Disaster Risk Reduction” would not be implemented temporarily but sustainably.
3. International comparative study on sustainable school disaster safety and ways of external support
The study tries to identify success and limiting factors toward the realization of comprehensive school safety in the Asian region including Japan, from the viewpoints of connectivity with educational plans and policies, school management capacity, comprehensiveness of school DRR education at each country.
4. In the affected areas, the needs for mental care and disaster education will change over time after the disaster. Therefore, we will develop and disseminate models that integrate mental care and disaster education, while practicing classes and supports for schools and communities, in collaboration with researchers, teachers, and education boards.
